Ferrous Scrap exports from St.Petersburg port to be banned

By Sangeetha Posted on : 2/22/2012 352
Proposal awaiting for President approval
St.Petersburg is considered to be the main port of Russia for scrap shipments to Europe. Since the other ports like Ust-Luga has draft problems and Murmansk port is not favor for shipping due to its location in far north resulting in high freight expenses, St.Petersburg was the best for scrap shipping.

Russia's media sources discloses that scrap shipments from St.Petersburg would be prohibited and the proposal would be effective from 01st January 2013 after it would be approved by the President.

Russian scrap traders are also cynical if the government would levy ban on export of scrap for the Rostov port - a major scrap export port on Black sea.
