Ill-effects of mishandling battery waste -

Illegal act of Battery scrap recyclers has made the residents of Dubai face serious health problems. Reports reveal that the recyclers have dumped highly toxic battery scrap in open atmosphere.

About 4million litres of acid from scrap batteries are disposed on land, water & air by illegal recyclers of UAE, mainly from Industrial areas of Dubai & Sharjah. This has affected the health of the populace of UAE desperately.

The acid from car batteries is said to be the most toxic waste. Unfortunately, scrap traders/recyclers dispose it using most unsafe methods. The usual practice is dumping on land & sewers.

Used lead acid battery can be disposed through Establishments holding legal permit to collect and recycle. This can be the only best way to save the environment and the inhabitants.
