Report on the facts

As the demand for Aluminium increases from the fabricators of China, the import prices are also likely to experience a hike.

China being the world’s largest consumer as well as producer of Aluminium, has increased the import prices about 20% this month (August). China’s aluminium is expected to still increase than the present in the coming months.

The local plants have increased their import demands as the firms need not pay the local 17% value added tax for aluminum imports as long as the firms export their products. This is a common practice in China.

Since 2009 there has never been much gap between the LME prices & Chinese prices. For example, if the LME prices fall something like USD 95 – 100, there would be no change in the Chinese prices.
The Chinese Aluminium import stood steady with a qty of 7,575 tonnes in July 2011.
