Advantage Nylon

Nylon is a generic designation for a family of synthetic polymers, more specifically aliphatic or semi-aromatic polyamides. They can be melted & processed into fibres, films or shapes. The first example of nylon (nylon 66) was produced on February 28, 1935, by Wallace Carothers at DuPont's research facility at the DuPont Experimental Station. Nylon polymers have found significant commercial applications in fibres (apparel, flooring and rubber reinforcement), in shapes (molded parts for cars, electrical equipment, etc.), and in films (mostly for food packaging). Nylon is a thermoplastic, silky material, first used commercially in a nylon-bristled toothbrush (1938), followed more famously by women's stockings ("nylons"; 1940) after being introduced as a fabric at the 1939 New York World’s Fair. Nylon was intended to be a synthetic replacement for silk and substituted for it in many different products after silk became scarce during World War II. It replaced silk in military applications such as parachutes and flak vests, and was used in many types of vehicle tires.

After initial commercialization of nylon as a fiber, applications in the form of shapes and films were also developed. The main market for nylon shapes now is in auto components, but there are many others.

According to, http://www.grandviewresearch.com/industry-analysis/nylon-6-6-market, the global nylon 6.6 market has shown strong growth over the past few years on account of increasing demand for automobiles, a trend which is expected to continue over the next six years. Increasing demand for nylon 6.6 in consumer goods and electronic & electrical applications is anticipated to be one of the key driving forces for the market growth of nylon 6.6. Demand is likely to grow owing to its superior mechanical properties and high heat resistances over nylon 6. However, high production cost and rise in raw material and energy cost may hamper market growth over the forecast period.

Automotive industry was the largest end use nylon 6.6 market application in 2013 and the trend is likely to continue over the forecast period. Increasing demand for light weight automobiles to improve overall efficiency resulted in high demand in vehicles. In addition, increasing demand for eco-friendly automobiles to meet vehicle emission standards is also anticipated to be a key driving force for market growth of nylon 6.6 over the next six years. Increasing purchasing parity and changing life styles of consumers is likely to boost automobile industry which in turn is expected to fuel nylon 6.6 market growth over the forecast period. Owing to the ease of processing and high heat resistance, nylon 6.6 is used in a wide array of industries including electronics and electrical appliances. Increasing demand for electrical appliances and electronics is likely to boost the global nylon 6.6 market over the forecast period. Increasing use of nylon 6.6 in consumer goods and packaging is also expected to propel market growth over the forecast period.

Asia Pacific was the largest nylon 6.6 market followed by North America in 2013. Emergence of Asia Pacific as a large scale manufacturing hub resulted in high demand for nylon 6.6 over the forecast period and the trend is anticipated to continue over the projected forecast period. Europe and North America has been witnessing sluggish growth over last few years due to market saturation in these regions. Latin America is expected to witness high growth over the forecast period on account of increasing automobile sales in this region.

As I pen the bottom line, I foresee a healthy market for nylon 6.6. The major industry which would be a key factor for increasing the growth demand would be automobile industry especially the car industry. This is the right time for buyers to invest in the purchase of nylon and reap dividends during the demand period.
